NO PLACE FOR HATE®
ADL is a leading anti-hate organization. No Place for Hate® is one of ADL’s signature education initiatives.

For millions of students, bullying, cyberbullying and name-calling can damage their self-esteem and ability to learn. No student should ever feel isolated because of his or her ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation or physical appearance. No Place for Hate is an effective part of the solution.

Launched in the Santa Barbara Region in 2003, this popular campaign has been embraced by over 100 schools in the Santa Barbara/Tri-Counties region.

WHAT IS NO PLACE FOR HATE®?
No Place for Hate® is an organizing framework for K-12 schools committed to creating sustainable change that leads to improved school climate. Participating schools are able to incorporate ADL’s anti-bias and anti-bullying resources with their existing programming to form one powerful message that all students have a place to belong. Over 1,800 schools across the country participate in No Place for Hate® annually. This is a year-long, collaborative effort between multiple stakeholders from the school’s community, school staff and administration, and ADL staff. No Place for Hate schools receive their designation by:

  • Building inclusive and safe communities in which respect is the goal, and all students can thrive.
  • Empowering students, faculty, administration and family members to take a stand against hate and bullying by incorporating new and existing programs under one powerful message.
  • Engaging schools and communities in at least three anti-bias activities per year, which ADL helps to develop.
  • Sending a clear, unified message that all students have a place to belong.

NEW TO NO PLACE FOR HATE®?

STEPS TO BECOMING DESIGNATED AS A NO PLACE FOR HATE® SCHOOL:

Create a No Place for Hate® Committee
This student-led coalition is responsible for identifying bias and bullying issues in the school, developing measurable goals to address these issues, and coordinating and overseeing the implementation of anti-bias and diversity activities throughout the year designed to achieve those goals. This coalition should include students, staff, administrators, and family members that reflect the diversity of the school community.

A World of Difference® Anti-Bias and Allyship Workshop
The No Place for Hate® committee, student leadership, or staff are highly encouraged to enhance their work by participating in an ADL anti-bias training. These workshops for pre-K through 12th grade school communities – educators, administrators, youth and families- focus on developing the knowledge and skills to challenge bias and bullying.

Sign the No Place for Hate® Pledge
A majority of the school community must sign the Resolution of Respect, affirming a commitment to promoting respect and challenging bullying.

Complete at least 3 Activities throughout the year
Each student must have an opportunity to participate in three ADL pre-approved activities that address bias and bullying and promote diversity and inclusion through discussion, active learning, and reflection. These activities should be spread throughout the school year and engage the full student body in discussion, ideally providing students with an opportunity to take follow-up action.
